Starting the New Year in New South Wales!

An end of year break meant some lovely farm time over Christmas but we had an extra week off and I had trouble finding any reasonably priced coastal accommodation in Victoria. So instead we hit the road North to Sydney, stopping in Canberra for a couple of days on the way.

Happy Hot and Sweaty New Year’s Eve

We stayed at Crowne Plaza in Canberra which was right next to the beautiful Glebe Park. We all packed in to a tiny room to keep the costs down which was a laugh but it was all we needed for a couple of nights. The hotel was in a handy central location with everything we needed close by. We had our car so we able to get everywhere in a few minutes. We visited all the usual suspects including Parliament House, Questacon and the Gallery.

Then it was on to our final destination… Sydney! I was lucky enough to find a cute airbnb in Dee Why, a suburb in the Northern Beaches of Sydney. This was my first time staying in this area and it was brilliant. All of the suburbs along this coast are gems! We drove from Dee Why to Palm Beach one day and stopped off at a few beachy suburbs including Avalon and I just loved the vibes everywhere we stopped but Palm Beach was unbelievably beautiful. The houses were next level! Wow! We drove up the winding, steep streets right to the top of Palm Beach and the views and houses were incredible. Very impressed. And the Pittwater harbour was so spectacular too. The best bit about all of these suburbs are the ocean pools. Nearly every beach had one. We loved swimming in them. Such a treat.

We also went to Luna Park, caught the ferry from Manly to the city and back again, walked around The Rocks, had an icecream in Bondi, visited Bronte rockpool, drove around the harbour through all the amazing suburbs like Rose Bay, Vaucluse, Double Bay and Watson’s Bay, visited the Maritime Museum where you can climb aboard real ships, rode bikes around Centennial Park, had lunch at a cool pub in Marrickville, looked at shops in Oxford St Paddington and swam as much as we could.

Hands down my favourite ocean pools were South Curl Curl and Bronte

Mapo Gelati in Bondi. Nectarine gelati was the best thing I’ve had in ages.

I wouldn’t hesitate to stay in the Northern Beaches again it was nice to be out of the city by the beach but close enough when we felt like driving in or catching the ferry. Cannot wait for our next visit. Sydney we adore you.
