Sometimes in life people appear just at the right time, almost serendipitously. I found Kate Quinn and her magical work through a mutual connection on Instagram and I instantly fell in love with her vibrant still life masterpieces. When I found out that Kate runs private painting classes I knew I had to get myself to one, despite living in different states. I’ve dabbled in various art mediums before but never properly committed to painting. It’s something I’ve longed to do for years. I messaged Kate and it turned out that she needed some photos of her most recent collection of works and some headshots so I was able to help out with that while she taught me to paint with oil paints. So we made it happen. In this uncertain world we locked in a date and miraculously no one was sick and it HAPPENED!
Today was the day. A whole day leisurely learning to paint from the master of colour and still life herself. It was such a joy to be welcomed into Kate’s beautiful, bright, Queenslander home. What a stunning space in which to create. I learnt so much in a day and left feeling confident enough to keep going by myself at home with my new found oil painting and composition skills.
Kate is a genuinely beautiful, cheerful and warm person inside and out so it makes sense that her paintings reflect that. I got so much out of today. It was one of those days I know I’ll never forget.
